Chiapas is ready for Pope Francis’ visit to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and San Cristóbal de Las Casas on Feb. 15.
In a joint conference with local departments, the state Tourism Secretariat said that for the historic event, Chiapas expects over 500,000 people and an economic benefit of more than 700 million pesos ($37.2 million).
In order to provide security to all attendants, it was also announced that 5,972 civil protection agents, paramedics, rescuers, fireghters, Red Cross members and 50,000 volunteers will be present. There will also be 37 attention centers available to the population. The Civilian Security and Protection Secretariat will participate with 3,000 agents, who will be at the disposition of the Presidential Guard and the Vatican Police.
A command center will be installed in both cities. An operation will also begin with the Unified Command across the state.
